"Health disparities are differences in the incidence, prevalence,
mortality, and burden of diseases and other adverse health conditions
that exist among specific population groups in the United States. The NIH
Program of Action initially will focus on racial and ethnic minority populations:
African Americans, Asians, Pacific Islanders, Hispanics and Latinos,
Native Americans, and Native Alaskans. Research on health disparities related
to socioeconomic status will also be addressed."
